UMIES Conference

United Kingdom-Malaysia-Ireland Engineering Science Conference (UMIES) 2010 has been successfully held in Queen’s University Belfast from 23rd – 25th June 2010. The conference is jointly hosted by MOHE, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), MASDUKE, Universiti Malaya (UM) and MyPNI. The objective of this conference is to increase the involvement of Malaysian students in an internationally recognised conference while promoting knowledge sharing and networking among Malaysians and also with their international counterparts.  Furthermore the conference initiates a platform to strengthen the bond among the academic institutions of three countries in sharing new ideas and strengthen future research activities.

10 delegates from various Universities in Ireland under the flagship of MyPSI were involved in presenting the poster and the oral presentation. The conference includes 4 plenary talk sessions by prominent researchers covering the field of agrowastes management, cutting fluid system and membrane technology for water and ionic liquid.

Congratulations to Mohd Najmudin Mohd Hassan, (UniMAP/AIT) who has been announced as the Best Presenter of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology theme with the title An empirical study on channel interference in heterogeneous wireless networks for mission critical control applications. Congratulation is also extended to Azrilawani Ahmad (UMT/UCC) for the Best Poster Presenter with the title Cytotoxicity monitoring of benzeno[a]pyrene using impedance cell-based biosensor. Hopefully, their achievement will encourage competitiveness among us and inspire more participants from MyPSI to join international conferences in the future.

On the last day of the conference, the organising committee has arranged a trip for the participants to explore Northern Ireland (Carrick-a-Rede Bridge, the Giant’s Causeway and Carrickfergus Castle). We would like to praise the organizing committee, especially to MyPNI for their hospitality and professionalism in organising such a brilliant event.

Thanks to all friends from UK, Malaysia and Ireland for a great time in BELFAST!!!
